The practice is based on the University of Sussex campus with over 20,000 patients.

In order to provide efficient access to clinical care, we offer a mixture of online, telephone and in-person appointment booking, as well as providing an express walk-in clinic for anyone who wants to wait and be seen on the same day.

Many of our patients (up to 80 each day) prefer to come to the walk-in clinic and sit and wait for an appointment. The walk in clinic is very busy as many of our patients live close by in high-density student accommodation. In order to meet demand we operate a nurse led triage system.

Nurse led triage services are a way to channel demand for healthcare services to an appropriately trained nurse. Our nurses have had extensive external and internal training and work closely with the GP’s. We ask that all patients are seen for an assessment with the nurse. By taking an initial history, assessing need and recording vital information, nurse led triage enables the doctor to spend more time taking care of patients and managing more complex problems. The nurses are trained to deal with all minor illness, contraception including IUD and implant fittings and removals, travel health and immunisations, child immunisations, mental health checks, chronic disease management including diabetic and cardiovascular checks and asthma management.

Any patient who needs to see a doctor will be referred immediately or be advised to make a routine appointment, whichever is the most appropriate.

To improve access, we now run rapid access clinics every morning. Appointments are usually not necessary.

Simply turn up between 9:00am and 11:00am and you can wait to be seen. The reception team will be able to give you an indication of waiting times but generally, waiting times are considerably shorter before 10.00am.
